In 2001 the Danish artist Anne Vilsbøll bought Mughal Palace Hotel in Udaipur, Rajasthan in India with the purpose of establishing a residence with a studio for herself and other artists. The house functioned as a hotel until 2005, whereupon it has been totally restored and organized as an artists – in – residence place. Today the name of the property is Makanne – a contraction of the word makan, which means house in hindi, and Anne.
